Selection
At Kensai International we help publishers select the right software for their needs in the shortest amount of time, usually about two to three month. Many book publishing software vendors recommend us to publishers that contact them about purchasing software.
Why do vendors recommend us?
1. We work with all the industry vendors. In May 2008 for example, we met with three vendors, and exchanged email with five more. In each case we told each vendor how they could improve their software and they updated us on their implementations, development roadmaps, and industry best practices.
2. We will not waste the time of the publisher or the vendor with solutions that are clearly not a match.
3. The RFP’s we prepare are targeted at identify the key functional strengths & weaknesses of each solution, without needlessly disqualifying a vendor.
Example 1:
Bad Question: Does your software use an Oracle Database?
Good Question: Is you database 100% SQL compliant?
The first question is a bad question because it knocks out of consideration vendor solutions; such as Royalty Tracker, that run on other SQL compliant databases; such as Microsoft SQL, mySQL, Progress SQL or IBM’s DB2.
The second question identifies the key requirement - 100% SQL compliance. This means that any third party reporting tool; such as Crystal Reports or Business Objects, can access the data.
4. We know the strengths and weaknesses of each vendor’s solution.
5. We are impartial. We always advise our clients to evaluate several solutions.
6. We work with the publisher to make sure that “all” the vendors understand their special requirements.
